Cloudflare, the web performance and security company, was today named by the Wall Street Journal as the Most Innovative Network & Internet Technology Company of 2011. The Journal recognized Cloudflare’s innovative technology that improves any website’s performance and protects it from a wide range of cyber attacks.
“The Cloudflare team is honored to receive the Wall Street Journal’s Innovation Award,” said Matthew Prince, co-founder & CEO of Cloudflare. “Cloudflare is helping improve the performance and security of all types of websites, ranging from individual blogs to Fortune 500 companies to national governments. Our goal is nothing short of building a faster, safer Internet for everyone.”
Based in San Francisco, Cloudflare launched in September 2010, and in the last year has grown to accelerate and protect more than 100,000 websites worldwide. Through a global network of 14 data centers, Cloudflare delivers 15 billion page views per month—more than Amazon, Wikipedia, and Twitter combined.
Key to Cloudflare’s innovation is that the service gets smarter with each website that joins the network. Cloudflare learns about attacks directed at one site and automatically applies that knowledge to protect other sites on the network. Since its launch, Cloudflare has stopped more than 100 billion attacks directed at its customers’ websites.
“Providing effective web security requires having insight into the changing landscape of cyber attacks,” explained Mr. Prince. “The diversity of websites on the Cloudflare network means we have a real-time understanding of web threats. This allows us to provide comprehensive web security not possible from a traditional hardware- or software-based approach.”
While traditional security and performance solutions require installing hardware or software, Cloudflare is provisioned though a simple change to a website’s domain settings. This means that a company can add Cloudflare to its existing infrastructure and begin seeing benefits in minutes.
Once setup, a website’s traffic is routed through Cloudflare’s global network where it is cleaned of threats and optimized for maximum performance. Every month, Cloudflare saves more than 50 lives worth of time that would have otherwise been wasted waiting for websites to load.
Cloudflare, Inc. (www.cloudflare.com / @cloudflare) makes sites lightning fast, protects them from attacks, ensures they are always online, and makes it simple to add web apps with a single click. Regardless of size or platform, Cloudflare supercharges websites with no need to add hardware, install software, or change a line of code. The Cloudflare community gets stronger as it grows: every new site makes the network smarter. More than 5% of global web requests flow through Cloudflare’s network daily. And, thanks to our awesome sauce technology, every month billions of people experience a faster, safer, better Internet. Cloudflare was recognized by the World Economic Forum as a Technology Pioneer, named the Most Innovative Network & Internet Technology Company for two years running by the Wall Street Journal, and ranked among the world’s 50 most innovative companies by Fast Company. Cloudflare is based in San Francisco, California, USA.
